Planning Institute of Australia Congress 2024 and planning for digital connectivity
Celebrating innovation and forward-thinking at the PIA Congress 2024, Indara emphasises the necessity of proactive digital connectivity planning for a stronger future for communities.
Indara was proud to support the Planning Institute Australia’s Congress 2024 held in Melbourne from May 22nd to May 24th. This year’s congress offered 780+ attendees with a full two-day program of speakers from the nation’s top urban & regional planners in the public and private sectors, developers, federal, state & local government agencies.
As Principal Sponsor of 2024 National Awards for Planning Excellence, the event was an opportunity to celebrate outstanding individuals, organisations and projects that have shown exceptional dedication, innovation and commitment to the planning profession.Photo: Indara’s team at our booth – Andrew McLane, Shreya Rekhapalli, Rohan Montgomery and Phil Smith.
Adam Beck, while presenting the award for Technology & Digital Innovation at the 2024 National Awards for Planning Excellence, emphasised the crucial role of forward-thinking in this sector:
“In a world that’s filled with challenges and uncertainties, it’s crucial that we acknowledge those who push the boundaries, that challenge conventions and redefine what’s possible for this great profession. And there are many challenges. Indara itself is no stranger to challenges and indeed we’re at a time where we need to call on and collaborate with the planning profession. The demand for digital connectivity and wireless infrastructure has never been greater as this nation grows. Ironically, however, we don’t often plan for this critical infrastructure. It comes after we develop most of the time and that’s a really big challenge. And hopefully in the coming years, as new housing development continues as we try and tackle that crisis, we’re hoping that proactively we’re going to be able to accommodate those essential critical infrastructures like wireless digital connectivity.”
The congress highlighted the importance of learning from shared experiences and the critical role of strong partnerships with the planning sector and government bodies. These collaborations are key to advancing digital connectivity and making initiatives like the new Telecommunications in New Developments (TIND) policy a reality. In today’s interconnected world, providing high-quality wireless connectivity is not just a goal – it’s a necessity.
